Reading books is my greatest hobby because it is a wonderful source of knowledge and reading good books will definitely quench your thirst for knowledge and information if you are interested. Photography is my passion and right from childhood I used to click images of my family, home and other things. Then I did not had what we call a digital camera and so I had to control myself and I used to take snaps occasionally, because after that we had to run to the studio to get the photos printed! But now I can take as many photos as I desire Especially the camera in mobile is a wonderful feature that has really helped me taking some special and sudden moments into my album. I have a collection of photos I have downloaded from many sites that I would like to share with you and also I’ll share my own snaps clicked by me but that some other time. Right now enjoy some of my favorite snaps from my collection,
The cuisine of India is characterized by sophisticated and subtle use of various spices, herbs and other vegetables grown in India and also for the widespread practice of vegetarianism across many sections of its society. Each family of Indian cuisine is characterized by a wide assortment of dishes and cooking techniques. As a consequence, it varies from region to region, reflecting the varied demographics of the ethnically diverse Indian subcontinent.
It was my first Diwali that I spend far away from my family.I got up early in the morning (as usual), got freshed up, and did puja and wished my family ‘Happy Diwali’ first and then waited for the others to wake up. The morning converted into afternoon and we spent all the time wishing others Diwali wishes. I was wearing the new cloths but this time I was not happy because I was missing home a lot. Few girls went outside for roaming but there was strict instruction from home for me to stay away from crackers and all those stuffs and stay in my room only!! I was decorating the idols of God and Guruji’s photos with the garland I brought from home and then me and my roommates were busy in the net for long. It was really impossible for us to study anything because the Mid Semester completed the very previous day. Then after having lunch,we talked about different issues and then took rest. In the evening, we got up and again after being fresh, we were ready to celebrate Diwali with each other. Calls were coming from our homes and we were really missing our home very much, which could be easily pointed out by looking at our gloomy faces. But then we started cleaning the room and then we made rangoli with colourful chalks in front of our door. We wore Salwars and did Laxmi Ganesh pooja, we sang Ganesha Aarti in unison, putting our odhni above our head to cover it during puja and then lit candles on each table before God’s idols. After that we offered Prasad to God and then went outside (within the hostel campus). Every body was having fun and there were usual sounds of anars, bombs and other crackers. Our Hostel warden came and she wished Diwali to us and I went to her and touched her feet and took her blessings, she kissed my forehead and then I felt as if this hostel is like my second home!!.It was altogether a nice Diwali,I will take it as one of the new experience of my life
Happy Diwali to all of you!! This is one of the festival I love and celebrate with enthusiasm. But this time I am having my Diwali at my hostel. I am thinking about my family back home and the preparation for Diwali and also the sweets I used to select Ganesha Laxmi idols every year. Life is nice here as it is a new experience for me to be with the unknown faces and adjusting with them. But as I have developed friendship with many of them and having nice time but then also home is home and missing my home very much at this moment. Anyways Happy Diwali, enjoy yourself and yes please have a safe and eco friendly Diwali. Don’t burn crackers and create pollution, instead just light beautiful Diyas and candles, decorate home with flowers and rangoli and enjoy this event. Cheers
I am back home at DP Vacations and finding my home really very comfortable after staying in the hostel for the first time in my life. Now I know why people say this line “Home Sweet Home”. Its a nice one and really happy to have it.
Lots of things to say but right now just looking forward to enjoy the vacations with family. I bought all the three novels by Chetan Bhagat in the station and now time to read all these three!! But yes not to forget about the Mid Semester going to take place after the DP Vacations and ofcourse all the assignments given to us. You know when I went to the hostel I had only two bhajans in my mobile along with the Limca song, and now I have a good collection of music (a big benefit of living in a hostel ).And also not to forget about the snaps we took here and there at juice point, in the hostel room etc.

The King of Pop Michael Jackson is a legend and the undisputed king who rules our hearts. All the channels are showing his life and journey!!No need to say that I am his biggest fan and really wants to say that “Michael Jackson is a Legend!”. Here’s some interesting facts about him when he came to our country. During the History tour in 1996,he came to India.
In 1996, Michael Jackson flew to India in a private jet. The entire airport had to be shut down and the staff lined up to catch a glimpse of the King of Pop. India was to witness a historic concert on a scale never seen before. Sabbas Joseph, director of Wizcraft, the event management agency that pulled this off recalls, “Michael met the CM and Bal Thackeray. This was followed by an aarti by Sonali Bendre. And then, as he was walking out, a strange incident occurred. A child fell down and Jackson immediately glided over and picked him up. He held him and hugged him with such care like he was the child’s mother.” Sabbas was reminded of the incident years later when the controversy about child molestation broke out. He says, “The allegations seemed all wrong. Michael even shot with 100 children in India for a calendar that he was producing.” On his way from the airport, he stopped the car several times to dance with the poor. There was a sense of excitement of him being in India.
Sabbas adds that Jackson was even willing to postpone his visit for a day or two in India to meet Mother Teresa. But that didn’t work out. Interestingly, Jackson needed a specific car with a roof that could open. At that time, the car wasn’t available in India. So, the event managers had to borrow the Toyota Privera from Anil Ambani. Viraf Sarkari, co-director at Wizcraft, recalls that all the celebrities and industrialists wanted to meet him. “We arranged meet-and-greet sessions with him. Michael kept all his commitments. He was a gentle person and met everyone respectfully.” Sabbas echoes the sentiment that Michael was the easiest international artiste to work with as he was very humble and the staff very professional. Both directors acknowledge that Jackson had a great spiritual connect with India. Viraf says, “We first met him in Los Angeles to confirm the concert. We were told he is very keen on performing in India. We’d presented him with a Ganesha, a Nataraj and a sherwani. And without requiring any explanation, he said, “Yes, that’s Ganesha, the god of luck.” Even when Bal Thackeray presented a silver statue of Nataraj to Jackson, the star didn’t need the politician’s explanation and said, “Yes, I know that’s the god of dance and art.” Finally, it was the famous sound byte from the legendary pop star that won many hearts in India when he said, “Main Hindustan aa raha hoon.”
This is the question once our Maths teacher asked during the coaching and he turned towards me and asked me,’Amrita, I hope you know this!’.It was like nobody answered it,and then it was my turn. Hmmm I thought for a while and said “Yes Sir it is!”. He then asked me to go on and explain how. I said that any function is continuos or not we have to check this in its domain. As the square root’s domain is [0,infinity) because the square root of a negative number is undefined!! Then I said as we have to check the value , we will only consider the right hand limit and not the left hand in case the limit tends to zero.
I also gave the reference of the Maths Book by G N Berman. Oh God the teacher was really impressed and said Good Work Amrita!! And I was very happy to listen that. He then turned to the whole class and said that this was the question that he was trying to get the answer from many books but he was not getting it exactly. During a seminar in IIT Roorkee he consulted few of the professors of IIT and one of them Mr. Gulathi explained him about this fact that in case the limit tends to zero then we only consider the domain in which the given function is defined and hence the square root of a function is continuos. When I listened this I was feeling like jumping and saying”Yes!!”. But i controlled and it was the best day of my life.
Ratha Jatra, the Festival of Chariots of Lord Jagannatha is celebrated every year at Puri, the temple town in Orissa, on the east coast of India. The presiding deities of the main temple, Sri Mandira, Lord Jagannatha, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra, with the celestial wheel Sudarshana are taken out from the temple precincts in an elaborate ritual procession to their respective chariots. The huge, colourfully decorated chariots, are drawn by hundreds and thousands of devotees on the bada danda, the grand avenue to the Gundicha temple, some two miles away to the North. After a stay for seven days, the deities return to their abode in Srimandira. Ratha Jatra is perhaps the grandest festival on earth. Everything is on a scale befitting the great Lord. Full of spectacle, drama and colour, the festival is a typical Indian fair of huge proportions. It is also the living embodiment of the synthesis of the tribal, the folk, and the autochthonous with the classical, the elaborately formal and the sophisticated elements of the socio-cultural-religious ethos of the Indian civilization. Sanctity and Significance of Ratha Jatra The festival is also known as Gundicha Jatra, Ghosa Jatra, Navadina Jatra, Dasavatara Jatra and by a variety of other names. For the devoted and believers, it is considered the most auspicious occasion. Rathe tu vamanam drishtwa punarjanmam na vidyate A glimpse of the Vamana, the dwarf form, an incarnation of Lord Jagannatha, is sure to ensure emancipation, release from the cycle of birth and death. Jatra is an essential part of the ritual of the Hindu system of worship. Jatra literally means travel or journey. Normally, it is the representative deities of temples more popularly known as Utsava Murti in south and Chalanti Pratima or Bije Pratima in Orissa, partake in these journeys. It is rarely that the presiding deities come out of the sanctum for such ritual journeys. The Jatra for the Ritual Journey take two forms – one involving the short circumbulation around the temple and other involving a longer journey from the temple to some other destination. The Jatra is considered as an important part of festivities and ceremonies of each temple and is considered as a special and sacred occasion. Rath Jatra being unique among all Jatras is the grandest festival of the supreme divinity who has manifested himself in the Kali Yuga to emancipate humanity and to relieve them from their sufferings. Lord Jagannatha is identified fully with Vishnu and Krishna. In his original manifestation as Nilamadhaba, he was worshipped in a sacred Nyagrodha Briksha or banyan tree. The branches of the tree had spread for several miles and any one entering this area was instantly emancipated and was relieved of the travails of the birth and re-birth. In fact, the influence of Yama, the God of Death, is supposed to have been curtailed in the sacred city of Puri – Srikshetra on account of the presence of Lord Jagannatha and therefore it is also called the Yamanika Tirtha. A glimpse of Lord Jagannatha on the chariot is considered to be very auspicious and saints, poets and scriptures have repeatedly glorified the sanctity of this special festival. The sanctity of the festival is such that even a touch of the chariot or even the ropes with which these are pulled is considered enough to confer the results of several pious deeds or penance for ages. In fact, there is a famous Oriya song which says that on this occasion, the chariot, the wheels, the grand avenue all become one with Lord Jagannatha himself. The concept of the chariot has been explained in the Kathopanishada in the following words- Atmanam rathinam viddhi sareeram rathamevatu Buddhim tu saarathim viddhi marah pragrahameva cha. The body is the Chariot and the soul is the deity installed in the chariot. The wisdom acts as the charioteer to control the mind and thoughts. The Skanda Purana glorifies the sanctity of the Rath Jatra in the following words- Gundicha mandapam namam yatrahamajanam pura Ashwamedha sahasrasya mahabedi tadadvabat. Those who are fortunate to see the deities of the Srimandira in the Gundicha Temple, the final destination of the procession of the chariots, derive the benefits of a thousand horse sacrifices, an immensely pious deed. Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja in his famous Vaidehisa Vilasa mentions that the Lord comes out from his sanctum for participating in the Gundicha Jatra, another name of the Festival of Chariots, only for redeeming the fallen, the patita jana who get the opportunity to behold their dearest god at close quarters on this occasion. Similarly, saint poet Salabega waxes eloquent in praise of his dearest dark darling and says that the Lord swaying and moving like a wild elephant arrives at the Grand Avenue and rides his chariot and destroys in a flash all the sins of his devotees, even if these may be grave or unpardonable.
